간수통

소금(천일염)을 담아 놓는 통으로, 평상시에는 양옆의 구멍을 짚으로 막아 사용하였다.
간수가 필요할 때는 구멍을 열어 천일염을 녹인 뒤, 아랫부분에 뚫린 구멍으로 간수를 받아냈다.
간수를 제거한 소금은 쓴맛이 없으며, 빼낸 간수는 두부를 만들 때 사용하였다.
Brine Jar (Gansu-tong)
This jar was used to store salt (sun-dried sea salt). Normally, the holes on both sides were sealed with straw.
When brine was needed, the holes were opened, the salt dissolved in water, and the brine was collected through a hole at the bottom.
The salt left behind had no bitterness, and the collected brine was used for making tofu.
